Things To Know About Wedding Photography

What it is like to photograph a wedding and why experience matters

(01)

For many couples, this is your first time planning a wedding. The first thing you'll learn on your wedding day is that weddings go so fast! It's often tough to understand the challenges your photographer will potentially face without seeing and/or being a part of several weddings. It can be a very daunting task for a photographer to start shooting weddings. Every other type of photo session a photographer can plan the exact time for perfect lighting, can pick out the most ideal locations, and they can take their time and use trial and error during the session. Not weddings. The unique aspect of photographing weddings is that they are not a photoshoot. It's a wedding day. Photographers are simply along for the ride and capture the day as it happens. Often, we are photographing at times that aren't ideal for perfect lighting. We have to know how to focus on and light our subjects in a pitch black dark reception. We are always finding ourselves in rooms that are too small or has poor lighting. We are often shooting ceremonies mid day in harsh lighting. Finally, we have to work fast, while remaining error free - because you have only one chance to capture a wedding day. There is no trial and error. We have to do all this while also providing direction and posing that will make your photos look beautiful and natural. To do this right, it requires A LOT of experience. Unfortunately, many begin wedding photography careers right after getting their first camera - and it ends horribly when they ultimately run into these challenges. That's why experience matters. Over the past 15 years and 300 weddings - I've learned all the techniques to respond to the challenges that will come up and in doing so provide a unique experience that will leave you with vivid memories of your wedding day.

The ideal approach to enjoying your wedding photography experience

(02)

By remembering that this is YOUR day. Your wedding day is special and every couple I work with is one of a kind. Your gallery should show the real you. Your love story. Here's a couple pointers that will help you achieve that:
1) Remember that it isn't a photoshoot. Throughout my career, I've created and revisited a lot of wedding galleries. The most beautiful and memorable galleries are not the ones with just a big set of pretty pictures with everyone smiling at the camera. Of course, there is a time and place for those. It is a part of every wedding day. It's a requirement for photographing a wedding properly. However, what makes a wedding gallery pull at your heart strings is when it is authentically a wedding and not a photoshoot. You should look back at your photos and feel the moment you were in. Most of those moments are unscripted and unprompted. Remember to live in the moment, to hug tightly, kiss, laugh. Show your beautiful personality. It is what brings photos to life.
2) Being prepared. One thing that I love to do is plan. I'm a big time over planner. I provide optional timeline assistance for every couple. The more prepared and well thought out your timeline is, the better chance you have of being able to relax and be yourself on your wedding day. Being stressed and hurrying is never beneficial for feeling good and having a great time. Over the years, I've seen well thought out timelines and I've seen some that have had flaws that end up throwing everything off. We can go over all of that and get down to the fine details so you can be worry free!

There is a lot of perks to doing an engagement session

(03)

Even if you already have done your engagement photos - it can be a great idea to do those with your wedding photographer. The reason is the relationship between photographer and couple is just like that of a new friend. The more you hang out - the more comfortable you are. In addition, they are a lot of fun. You will have a lot of photos from your wedding that are different from what you can get at an engagement shoot. Typically, they are a lot more casual and for many couples those have great value even after your wedding photos are delivered.

FAQ

Where do you photograph weddings and do you travel?

(01)

I consider myself to be a traveling wedding photographer. In fact, I thrive on it. I used to only photograph weddings around my home area. I quickly realized that going to the same venues over and over wasn't for me. I am very much an adventurer and LOVE to see new places and meet new people. In Winter months through Spring I'm located in Florida. Summer through Fall I'm located in West Virginia near the Pennsylvania border. However, I'm available to photograph your wedding/engagement anywhere in the United States!
Travel Fees:
I do not charge an excessive travel fee that goes beyond the actual cost of travel.

*Neighboring States*
Weddings only have hotel fees for day before and day of wedding + day of engagement session (if applicable).

*Non Neighboring States*
Wedding Only Packages
-I charge Roundtrip Flight + Hotel + Car Rental
(Flying out of Pittsburgh, PA or Orlando, FL and arriving in town 2 days before the day of the wedding and checking out the day after the wedding. I also attend the rehearsal if you have one the day before, just to check out the venue, snap a few candids, and get to know everyone.)

Wedding + Engagement Packages
-All of the above applies for the wedding day + Add Roundtrip Flight + Hotel + Car Rental for scheduled engagement shoot (arriving the day before and checking out the day after the engagement shoot.)

No other travel fees are to be added for other reasons such as tolls, food etc.

All travel fees are due at the time of contract signing and are non refundable. All bookings for flights, hotel and car rental is made directly after booking. Receipts will also be provided for your records.

How many photos will I receive?

(02)

This is the toughest question to answer for photographers because there is such a variety in the way weddings are planned. I always choose quality rather than quantity. However, my ultimate goal is to tell your love story in it's entirety. The total amount needed to do so can vary and a lot of that variety is determined by the amount of activity at the reception and during preparation.
As a rough estimate, for 8 hours of wedding coverage you will receive between 500 to 900 fully edited images.

Will you pose us on our wedding day?

(03)

This is one of the most important reasons to hire a photographer that has a lot of experience. One of my greatest strengths as a photographer is my ability to comfortably pose my clients for photos and also give direction in ways that create a natural look and feel to your photos.

Why did you choose to become a wedding photographer?

(04)

The reason I love doing what I do is because I enjoy getting to see love stories unfold between two people, getting to know each couple, and having the opportunity to document it all on camera. Knowing that my photos will be viewed for years to come gives me great joy and purpose. I could not imagine doing anything else.

Can we see a full wedding day?

(05)

Absolutely. Just email me at TylerVincentPhoto@gmail.com and I will send you a link to a full gallery to check out.

Tyler was incredible throughout the whole event. He showed up early and was ready for the bridal party as soon as we all arrived. I appreciate his guidance, professionalism and amicable attitude. I have heard great comments about him from the guests which shows how on point he was. I recently received the photos and I'm fascinated with all of them. Thank you so much for capturing the happiest moments of my life.

Tyler and Kayla were the perfect balance of extremely sweet and professional. The pictures resulting from my wedding blew me away. I was happier than I could have imagined. Their talent is clearly visible in their work, despite a cloudy day there was no impact on our wedding pictures. These pictures I will treasure and keep forever. I could not recommend them more for your special event photography!
